- Evening Wedding Reception is where all the fun is
My how times have changed – years ago if I got a wedding evening invitation I would almost feel insulted and believe that I was not good enough to be at the entire wedding, so therefore why should I go to the evening event. Mind you, having said that, I accepted many an wedding evening invitation and had the time of my life. In my time it was very acceptable to go to the ‘afters of a wedding’ for say a work colleague or a distant cousin or an associate. The funniest thing that happened to me when I followed through on an evening wedding invitation to my husbands’ work colleague, is when we joined the wedding evening reception, had a drink or two, mingled with the guests, met up with the groom, and awaited in anticipation to see the bride. Yes you guessed it, when the bride came over to greet us, we had never seen her before in our lives, so when we asked where is Rita, we were quickly advised that Rita’s wedding was on the floor above. What a laugh we had over this and it certainly set the mood for us joing the afters of the wedding we were invited to and of course it made a great story, onto only on the night but even now. We had a great night at both weddings and we were the talk of the town.
Now most people tend to have a small wedding reception during the day for family and close friends and then extend the celebrations to all for that evening wedding reception. While the Wedding ceremony and the main wedding reception has happened during the day, the real fun is only beginning now.
The customs and norms on weddings have so evolved over the years that now the real wedding reception happens in the evening. So I hear you ask what do I wear? Good question.
Most couples nowadays find evening weddings more romantic and ideal.
Evening weddings have increased popularity over time.
People see weddings, especially receptions as a perfect time to mingle
with old and new friends and generally socialize.
Evening weddings, according to several etiquette books and guides, should be treated as if they were daytime wedding.
Dress for the occasion and don’t forget your evening wedding etiquette.
Firstly I hear you asking what should I wear? The evening wedding invitation may stipulate the wedding evening attire and therefore out of respect for the Bride and Groom you must adhere to their request. Where no evening wedding attire is stipulated, then I would dress formal, ladies in cocktail wear and guys in a suit.
Evening wedding invitations that bear the phrase “black tie optional,”
indicates that the evening wedding is meant to be a formal gathering
and the hosts intend the guests to appear formal.
Men are expected to appear in their tuxedos and women in their evening
ball gowns.
For the burden of the ladies, they should first find out about the
wedding colors and motifs before showing up at the wedding. Otherwise,
they, for sure, would not want to catch hot and daunting eyes during
the entire evening wedding reception.
For the ladies, remember not over do it. Do not steal the thunder from
the bride. Do not out do the bride’s maids, the maid of honors and the
bride’s mom as well.
Dress formal but down. Find a suitable color and design of the gown that can attract attention, but not too much to the extent that all eyes are totally fixed on you. Remember, it should be the bride who should stand out on her much-awaited moment.
One day that bride will be you. Enjoy your wedding evening invitation and think of it as special which it is, as it is especially for you.
Of course don’t forget and bring a gift and you will find the best gifts of all here at Ana’s amazon.
